Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan

The Declaration Act Action Plan includes collectively identified goals and outcomes that form the long-term vision for implementing the UN Declaration in B.C. The plan contains 89 priority actions - tangible steps that will advance this work in key areas over the next five years.

Work included theme development; including colour palette, page layout, pattern design, photography selection, and photography.

Designing for Connection and Cultural Respect

Building on Andy Everson’s feather and drum design, a repeating pattern motif was designed to enhance the report’s visual harmony. The colour palette of blue and orange symbolizes British Columbia’s sky and sea, while the orange hue represents reconciliation. Multiple rounds of typeface selection led to the choice of BC Sans, designed to support special characters and syllabics found in Indigenous languages in British Columbia. Careful consideration was given to selecting images and developing iconography that respectfully represent First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.
